How are soups and poetry related?

What could be more intimate. Making soup. Making a poem. Without much of a recipe to go on the results nourish & delight. Soup is play-making at its most practical. Poetry, too. Soups can startle as much as a poem -- all to the good. And the spoon of the cook as visible of the pen of the poet.

At once he was beside a girl named Jill
and we are trying to catch the same train
We stumble, try to run, fall down
and then try to help each other up

His father appears, dressed for work
with a crisp yellow tie, standing at the entrance
beckoning us onto the train. Jill makes it.
He is frozen and watches as they wave to him
