Magpie. If poetry has a mascot, is it the magpie?

By nature magpies are intelligent, shamanic, and minimalists. Leaving us with the overall impression of black ink striking paper.


And you ask, how does this relate to food? Magpies, like poets, need to eat. And poets feed poetry.

    touching the blankness with a cue of her own
    making
    no fiddle finds a sweeter tune
    so she wants no more knuckles
    on the car top, down hard on a bug
    turning sideways, about to take off
