What do you pair with a pear poem?

A pair of eyeglasses and a glass bowl.

Do you pare pears? I don’t. Prefer the pair of textures –slightly grainy and smooth. While you're whittling or not whittling the pear, pick up Robert Kelly's pear poem.

  1. pairings are all over the place

    birds and nests from sticks
    freedom fighters and their muskets
dimples and the smiles people adore

all of the time I didn't think about fruit
but just ate it and swallowed with pleasure
maybe I should have been keeping the place clean

    where the peels dropped
    where the oxygen goes
where life and its little sweetness

takes a big break from perfect
    thank god
