Do poets favor a particular emotional register?

serene, bucolic
angry, angst-full
personal, intimate
cheerful, bouncy
distant, withdrawn
sad, melancholic
sentimental, romantic
hot, fiery

What corresponds with food? Take, for instance, chili peppers. Is it in the mouth of the beholder? Or those who have the stomach for it.

  1. conflagration

    outbursts of the old gunpowder
    in a declaration of desire

we are in a fiesta by the fire

but does she really think the big hat
will hide her from the sun

or will the big tree in the town
do just as well for cards

perhaps the sullen look of the child
    cleared the room of warmth

    or did the passing gambler
    throw a charm her way?

Go to the abandoned edge of everything
and wait for me, wait for me if you can
