Thyme. What herb best scents a poem?

I'm thinking thyme.

Off the page, in the kitchen, I'm thinking lemon thyme never disappoints. With eggs, with mushrooms. Basil in not the only herb for tomatoes. Or potatoes.

Time enough to consider.

    fields of it

    rummaged weeds once revered

    silk of the centuries

    & perfumed air

    doomed not for asking
