Company. How is cooking for company similar to pulling together poems for a reading?

Both adhere to deadlines.
Both revel in surprise.
Both use common ingredients in uncommon ways.
Both take the enigmatic and try to fashion it tangible.
Both offer tastes.

  1. Metaphorical Love (6)

In the dark without the rain one time
    So empty was our caring
She said she had to talk
The boats and bins were flaring

She ate the cakes, she took a ride
On rusty nights her heart was longing
Long after warmth had left her songs
    She continued with her singing

Until the end of time we walked
    Her tiny hand in mine
In the dark without the rain we walked
    Untl the end of time

Those alone when dawn falls down
Their hearts a loss from caring
Can find us on the Boulevard
    Akin to elemental daring
