How does writing a poem relate to mowing the lawn?

Muscle memory. Routine. Editing as in line and grass.

As you improvise on a grilled fruit "salsa" of peach, plum, & fig (w/feta, mint, olive oil, pepper), consider cooking and its correspondence to the above.

  1. Lawn Party

Does the fruit tree drop its treasures
    just to exasperate the grass?
    These entreaties toward comprehension
    baffle the wallflower, the beast!
When one approaches a living, breathing
    heave-ho on the moor
what are we to make of the curving bow,
    a ship gone too far?
I'd sooner take the wrong way out,
lift my cups to a wretched mistake
    than navigate this proven map,
    this subsidy of assumption
    even pretty music cannot abide.
She'll put out her best bowl of figs
and invite all the damned to dinner.
