Memory

I've been reading Penelope Lively's Dancing Fish and Ammonites in which she has much to say about aging.  Much to say about memory.   Is memory the roux which thickens poetry?

  1. Laughter was somewhere
I heard it in the shrieks of hungry gulls

    the cobblestones of the beach
as we sat on our blankets

warming, on our way to the water
her feet as she left us for a moment
