How does adding cherries to your salad, relate to the poem you're working on?

In both instances, it's advisable to be on the look-out for pits.

What are pits in poetry?  You'll know when you say the poem out loud.

In both, hold on (hold-out) for the color in each.

  1. Hypotheticals (continued)

Often on such occasions as waiting
for a reply from the friend on the square
the merchant took to reciting lines
from previously works of his and others

So it was with such intentions to pass the time
that he remmembered a recent chapbook
written with a dear friend and admired poet
about the nature of random cicumstances

"Before too many explicit alibi's taken for a ride, the staggering figure throws a dime
    Confusion is a mapped-out lie
    sputtering before a chock-full season"

Ah, a bowl of cherries would be nice, he thought
and sat down by the farmer's market
to enjoy a glass of viognier with cheese
and a plate of cherries, split sans pit
