Eggs. How is cracking eggs emblematic of a poem.

One word? Enjambment.
Two words: Delicious enjambment.

As in eggs, poems should have a practical yet fragile exterior and a nutritious inside.

In the dark without the rain
My friend and I did walk
She did not put her hand in mine
She did not want to talk

My friend and I did walk
The musty ruins of the town
We saw the boats and empty bins
    We threw our silver down
